In June, I was pleasantly surprised to be contacted by American Express for a chance to be a part of their “Rising Star” competition scheduled to occur at the WWD (Women’s Wear Daily) Magic Trade Show in Las Vegas! The pool of 100 potential designers was whittled down to three and I was chosen to be one of the lucky participants! I was flown in to design a handbag (LIVE!) on the trade show floor, in the middle of the Convention Center. The theme was”Everyday Couture” and the timeline was a mere three days. On the last day, we presented our design to a panel of judges to explain how our handbag fit the theme.
When my name was called as the winner, I was so surprised and thrilled! American Express created the competition as a means of supporting small business. It was an incredible opportunity to showcase my work, hand out my business card and meet other hardworking designers like my amazing competition, Victoria Khoss and Shana Luther.
Courtney Kerr was the guest speaker, which helped draw a huge crowd. She visited my booth and gave me sweet words of encouragement about building my brand. Overall, it was a truly “magical” experience and I am so excited to bring this momentum into our fabulous fall line!
